What you're looking at
One network per book. Each node is a character, sized by how central they are, and each line joins two characters who appear close together in the text. Click a book to load it, drag nodes around, scroll to zoom, and click and hold a character to fade everyone they aren't connected to.
What the data says
In A Game of Thrones, Eddard Stark is the hub, with 66 connections and the highest centrality. A Storm of Swords is the densest book, with 303 characters and 1,008 links. By A Dance with Dragons the centre has moved to Jon Snow.
How it was made
D3's force layout, with zoom and drag. The networks come from Andrew Beveridge's asoiaf repository, built for the Network of Thrones research with Jie Shan.
